As part of several research projects by the German Weather Service, in collaboration with the University of Mainz and myself as a freelancer, various tools and a coherent processing chain for satellite data were developed.
The central challenge of the project was to merge several incomplete and qualitatively different data sources into a more precise and consolidated data basis. An innovative approach was chosen, utilizing the conjugate gradient method in combination with a special implementation of the convolution instruction to achieve an efficient solution. Additionally, the computing power of the MOGON supercomputer at the University of Mainz was used to calculate the optimal solution.
